Accounts and logging in
How do I make a penguin?
When the island opens, go to the play page and choose Create a Penguin. Pick a name, a password and a colour. It is free. Until then, see Coming Soon.
Why do other players see a number instead of my name?
Every new penguin name is checked by a moderator first. Until it is approved, other players see a name like P12345678. You keep logging in with the name you chose.
What names are allowed?
4 to 12 letters or numbers. Names must be friendly and must not contain personal information, a staff member's name or a famous penguin's name. If a moderator turns a name down, you can pick another one.
I forgot my password. What do I do?
Use Forgot your password? on the accounts site: type your penguin name or email and we send a link to choose a new password. If no email arrives, or your penguin has no email, ask our team for help signing in.
I cannot log in.
Check the penguin name and password (passwords are case sensitive). If your penguin was banned, see Bans and appeals. Still stuck? Ask our team for help signing in.
How do I keep my account safe?
Never share your password, not even with a friend or someone who says they are staff. Staff will never ask for it. Use a password you do not use anywhere else.
How do I keep my penguin safe with 2-step sign-in?
Turn on 2-step sign-in in My Account. Logging in then asks for your password and a 6-digit code from an authenticator app on your phone, in the game and on the website. Save your recovery codes in case you lose your phone. Read the full guide. Lost your phone and your recovery codes? Create a ticket: our team checks the penguin is really yours before turning it off.
Worlds and waiting in line
Which world should I pick?
Any of them: Blizzard, Sleet, Frozen, Marshmallow and Zipline are the same island. Pick the same world as your friends so you meet in the same rooms. The bars next to each world show how busy it is.
A world is full. What happens?
You join the queue (the line) for that world and see your place. When a penguin leaves, the first penguin in line gets in by itself, so just keep the page open. If you lose your connection for a moment you keep your place.
Can I leave the line and pick another world?
Yes. Cancel, then pick another world; you go to the end of that world's line. Getting into any world takes you out of every line.
Why was I disconnected for being idle?
Only while a world is full: after 15 minutes without doing anything, the game asks "Are you still there?" and counts down 5 minutes. Move, chat or press OK and you stay. If nobody answers, the penguin is logged out so someone waiting in line can get in. While a world has room, nobody is logged out for being idle.
Playing the game
The game will not load. What can I try?
Refresh the page, make sure your browser is up to date, and turn off extensions that block scripts. If it still does not load, clear your browser's cache for this site and try again, then check the server status.
Can I play on a phone or tablet?
The game runs in the web browser on computers, iPhone, iPad and Android, with nothing to download. Phones and tablets are still being tested, so some things may not work there yet.
How do I know if the game is down?
The server status page shows whether the game and its worlds are up.
Coins and items
Does it cost anything?
No. Old Club Penguin is free to play, and there is nothing to buy.
How do I get coins?
Play the games on the island. Your coins are counted by the server from how you play.
Someone offered me coins or items. Is that real?
No. No moderator or staff member can give out coins, items, colours or anything else for your penguin, so anyone offering them is trying to trick you. Do not give them your password, and report them.
Safety and reporting
Someone is breaking the rules. How do I report them?
Tell a moderator in the game and stay away from the penguin who is causing trouble. You can also create a ticket with what happened. The Club Rules explain what is not allowed.
Someone asked for my personal information.
Never share your real name, address, phone number, school, passwords or social media, and never ask anyone for theirs. Report the penguin who asked.
Is my chat recorded?
Some of it. We save messages the chat filter stopped or covered with stars, and what was said in a room around a report. Saved chat is kept for 90 days. All other chat is only held for up to 24 hours, in case a report comes in, and is then deleted automatically. Ready-made messages, emotes and actions are never saved. Only our staff team can read saved chat, and every look is noted. See Chat is recorded in the Club Rules.
Why did my message turn red?
It broke a chat rule, so it was not sent and nobody else saw it. Nothing else happens: the filter never warns or bans anyone by itself. Numbers can only be typed by staff.
Bans and appeals
Why was my penguin muted, kicked or banned?
A moderator saw something that breaks the Club Rules. Depending on what happened, that can be a warning, a mute, removal from the server, or a ban for a while; serious or repeated rule breaking can mean a ban forever.
How do I appeal a ban?
Log in on the accounts site and choose Appeal the Ban, then tell us what happened. A member of the team reviews it and replies in the ticket. Please make one appeal per ban.
Contact
How do I contact the team?
Create a ticket and our team will get back to you. There is no phone support.
Is Old Club Penguin part of Disney?
